Dark Harmony by Laura Thalassa. End of book series

The Devil is in the deal

Blurb: "There are worse things than death. Things that lurk in the shadows and slip into your dreams. Things that have no business existing. Things that once slept... but have now awoken.

For Callypso Lillis, the fae magic that now runs through her veins is equal parts curse and good fortune. For the very thing that bonds her to Desmond Flynn, the King of the Night, also makes her vulnerable to the Thief of Souls, a man who wants to break the world... and Callie along with it.

But it's not just the Thief whose shadow looms over the Otherworld. Des's father is back from the dead, and he wants revenge on the son who sent him to the grave in the first place.

Des and Callie must figure out how to stop both men, and time is running out. Because there are forces at play working to tear the lovers apart once and for all... and unfortunately for them, death is no longer the worse thing to fear."

Dark harmony is the third and last book in the Bargainer series. Not including the novella.

What can I say about this book? It made me laugh, cry with happiness and sob with despair. It made me fall in love and angry. To sum up... it was bloody emotional. I was not prepared, let me tell you! So if you read this book, get yourself a box of tissues or a few handkerchiefs!

This book is an adventure. In every way. It sucked me in and I found myself thinking about it most of the day, waiting until I could get my hands on it once the kids were in bed and the dogs were asleep beside my feet. Callie and Des are as amazing as usual and I found myself wondering if Des is based on someone or if he's just a figment of Laura's imagination. Surely someone so cold, yet so loving and understanding can't be real... or could he?

Callie is awesome and I love her character, but in this book Des really sucked me in and I have a real love for Callie's best friend Temper. That woman takes no shit and I love it.

Usually I'm very good at figuring out where a story (or film, that's way too easy) is going, and at some point it was, but I honestly didn't know how our main characters were going to actually kill Des' dad or the Thief of Souls (who we find out who he is!) and that alone kept me intrigued. Though Des and Callie's love is captivating all on its own.

Towards the end of the book there's an event, I won't say what it is, as it'll spoil it, but that part stayed with me for a long time and I was ugly sobbing in my room, holding the book and trying desperately to dry my eyes enough to see the pages. I had to know what was happening and I wasn't sure my heart could take it. I stayed up way too late, because I couldn't go to sleep on that part of the book, I had to know exactly how it played out and I was not disappointed.

Now, I do have one part that I didn't like all that much though sadly. The showdown with the Thief felt a little... far fetched. Now what I like about this series is that, fae side excluded, it feels real. Like it could actually happen in your dreams. But this? It felt almost like Laura Thalassa had made an unbeatable foe, but then didn't quite know how to defeat him, so she made his cockiness be his downfall, which would usually be fine, except he hadn't done this particular thing before, and if someone is as obsessed with you, like the Thief is with Callie, going as far as to explain how he was going to treat her, why would he go and make himself the way he did? I think our author didn't quite know how to defeat him to be honest, so she picked it for ease. At the same time I think the way it went was always suppose to be that way, as it's been hinting at it from the previous books, but I think the way in which she went about it was unrealistic, to be honest.

Honestly this book is brilliant, weird showdown included, and you may find it fits perfectly. This is just my opinion.

The characters are well thought out, they feel real and you get drawn in and you can't help but love them all and wish they (Thief and Des' father excluded!) were real and your friends or partners. The world feels real and if these books became a film I'd definitely watch it.

This whole series has been a pleasure to read and I honestly do love the author and the books and I will be keeping my eye out for more of her books in the future.

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good romance, a 'Touch her and die' trope and a love that spans the ages. It's a good YA book, with some NA parts. Gotta love some smut in a good book.

I'd give this book, and series, a solid 4/5

Have you read this book? Do you agree with the showdown or do you think it fit perfectly? Are there any authors you'd recommend or books you want me to review? Leave me a message or connect with me on my instagram accounts.
