The Emperor of evening stars by Laura Thalassa. Book 2.5

Every devil has his day

Blurb: "In the beginning there was darkness.

Before he met Callie, before he became the Bargainer, there was Desmond Flynn, the bastard son of a scribe. A boy born to a weak mother, cursed with little magic, and destined to marry a slave.

But fate had something else in mind.

Till the darkness dies.

From the barren caves of Arestys to the palace of Somnia to the streets of Earth, this is how Desmond Flynn, a fairy who began with nothing, became the Emperor of Evening Stars."

The Emperor of Evening Stars was, in a word, brilliant. Never before has a short book (207 pages) hooked me in as fast as this one did. I started this book last night and I devoured it! This book is basically the story of how Desmond Flynn became who he is today, and what he's been through. And don't worry, Callie is in it towards the end, much to my delight.

This novella made me tear up, feel angry, and almost anxious in the time it took me to read it.

You can honestly see how every single decision and every event in his life, made him who he is, and how his honour, and his distain changes and evolves throughout the book. He goes from a man fuelled by vengeance, to a man desperate for his love, his mate.

This book is everything it needs to be and more. I honestly fell more in love with Des throughout this, possibly because of his struggles and how he overcame them all.

You see how his friendships grow, how his trust loosens up; allowing room for others to come into his life, and yes, how his anger turns more into a calm strength, ready for anything and everything.

Honestly there's nothing I don't like about this book, other than I should have definitely read it before the last book, but that's on me.

I'd recommend this for everyone who's read the Bargainer series, even if you've already read it. It definitely has some of the original Bargainer book feel to it too, which I love.

Rating: 5/5

What should I read next?

Until next time...
